Volunteering

Become a Volunteer

Playgroup Queensland is reliant upon the goodwill of countless volunteers who work in partnership with the Association in a variety of ways. By volunteering with Playgroup Queensland, you will be assisting and supporting children and their families to have fun, meet friends and learn vital developmental skills through play.

How can I volunteer with Playgroup Queensland?

Playgroup has a number of voluntary roles which assist in achieving our vision. You can volunteer as:

  • A Board of Management Member and work at a strategic level to shape the future of Playgroups in Queensland;

  • A Toy Library Volunteer supporting Playgroups and Members by staffing a Toy Library in your local area;

  • A Child Health Promotions Volunteer, promoting Playgroup participation to new Parents Groups at Child Health Clinics;

  • A Regional Volunteer, supporting Playgroup Queensland in establishing and supporting Playgroups in your area and assisting with events and activities;

  • A Contact Person or Treasurer in facilitating and supporting your Playgroups to be the best it can be;

  • And most importantly by giving a hand at your local Playgroup in setting up, running activities and packing up.

Testimonials

Being a Volunteer is Rewarding

Our past and present Volunteer's share their experience...

I first took on the role of Treasurer and everything has just progressed since then. I like to call it ‘natural progression’. I have not only had the pleasure of watching babies (my own and my friends) grow into pre-schoolers but I myself have grown as a person from being involved in such a wonderful organisation. The friendships I have made from our weekly gatherings I just know will be life long. We learn so much from each other. This I value so much.

To anyone thinking about becoming a volunteer with Playgroup Queensland - give it a go! You just don’t know where it may lead you.

Michelle Poole,

Caloundra Zone Coordinator

I first became involve with Playgroup in 1991 while caring for my grandson when his parents were at work and after the loss of my husband. I attended the Inala Uniting Church Playgroup for 3 years and when a contact person was needed to keep the Playgroup from closing, I volunteered and still hold the position today. I had 3 granddaughters, all are now in their teens but I still enjoy Playgroup. I did later volunteer as Zone Coordinator and eventually took the position of Toy Librarian (temporarily) about 6 years ago at the Inala PCYC. I love the work but as I am 67, please if there is anyone out there willing to help out I would be eternally grateful.

Cath David,

Inala Toy Library Volunteer

My husband and I decided that I would stay at home for as long as our children needed me (or as long as the budget holds out!). So being able to volunteer has been a way to utilize my existing skills, learn new ones and it also provides me with an opportunity to give something back to the wonderful organisation that has given so much to my son William.

In the short time that I have been a ZC I have organised quite a few events and the work, which has included liaising with the Playgroups in my Zone, organising community involvement, raising funds, issuing media releases and completing insurance risk assessments were all things that I had never done before. I also assist my Regional Development Officer by keeping tabs on all of the Playgroups and letting her know when they need support and information. The needs of my particular Zone have been quite out of the ordinary after Cyclone Larry and there have been many challenges as a result.
