August 24 Statement

Face-to-Face Playgroups have Resumed

From Monday 13 July, you can return to playgroups or programs that have submitted a COVID-Safe Plan to recommence gatherings.

Provided a playgroup has completed a COVID-Safe Plan or a school/organisation has provided an existing COVID-Safe Plan, they can continue to meet. Schools are required to follow the direction of the principal. All playgroup attendees must remain vigilant and comply with the requirements of COVID-Safe plans. Playgroup Queensland does not endorse the recommencement of a playgroup that has not completed a COVID-Safe Plan.

Playgroup Queensland respects and supports the individual decisions of groups regarding whether or not they continue to meet. Before attending a playgroup, please contact them to make sure they are operating. Visit our Find a Playgroup search tool to find the contact details for your local playgroup.

We understand that navigating this COVID-19 environment has been unusual and quite difficult for many of us, so please be kind to yourself and reach out if you need assistance. Please continue to monitor public health advice. If you, your child or anyone in your family/household have travelled overseas or interstate in the last 14 days, are being tested for COVID-19 and awaiting results, or currently unwell, please stay home, follow government health advice and avoid visiting playgroup. Playgroup Queensland will continue to provide updates.

Face-to-face playgroups are returning from Monday, 13 July 2020

We’re excited to announce face-to-face playgroup sessions are returning next week! What does this mean for you? From Monday, 13 July, you can return to playgroups or programs that have submitted a COVID-Safe Plan to recommence gatherings.

To find out if your playgroup is ready to welcome you back, please follow-up with your contact person (contact information available via Find a Playgroup) or email the Playgroup Queensland team at All groups that have submitted a COVID-Safe Plan have been provided with a range of support resources, posters and tip sheets to make the return to playgroup as easy as possible. Please understand that in some circumstances, our playgroups may remain on hold due to increased health risks or restricted venue access.

The most important consideration for us during this time is the health and safety of our community – our playgroup families, our employees, and our valued partners. It is a requirement that you provide your contact details at each playgroup session for attendance and contract tracing purposes, in line with government requirements. If you, your child or anyone in your family/household has travelled overseas in the last 14 days, is being tested for COVID-19 and awaiting results or is currently unwell, stay home and avoid visiting playgroup.

If your playgroup remains closed or you are not in a position to return to face-to-face gatherings, you can continue to connect with our online community through our Playgroup at Home Facebook group or visit our Playgroup at Home webpage for activities and resources.

Thank you for your patience and support during this time. Playgroup is going to be different for a while, and we ask that you continue to be patient as we navigate this journey together. Many hands make light work, and we ask that you please do what you can to help support your playgroup during this time.

For any further information, please contact Playgroup Queensland on 1800 171 882 or email

We look forward to seeing you in person again soon!
