Yarrabah and Djenghi Playgroups
Yarrabah Young Mums and Djenghi Mobile Playgroups are delivered in the isolated Indigenous community of Yarrabah south of Cairns. Each session is delivered once a week for 2 hours and engages with the local Yarrabah and Djenghi community to provide culturally and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for local families. The Young Mums group is delivered in the community of Yarrabah itself and uses learning techniques from the Abecedarian Approach Australia (3a) to engage children and their families in play-based experiences. The Djenghi playgroup is delivered from a mobile trailer that is towed to the community each week, with the playgroup being delivered in a central location in the community so that local families can easily access the group. This playgroup also delivers 3a learning techniques. Both sessions are delivered by a local person from Yarrabah who is already well connected within the community.
